A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated DisKid #3′s first birthday. We went with a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme. I’ll be sharing more from the party later, but I wanted to show you the adorable Mickey head topiaries that I made using directions from Heather over at Lulu and Junebug. Here is the original PINspiration that I found. Isn’t it adorable?
First you’ll need to shop for and gather your supplies which include a small flower pot, floral foam block, two thin dowel rods, three floral wreaths (one large for the head and two smaller for the ears), tissue paper or napkins, hot glue gun, black and red spray paint, decorative shredded paper, and ribbon. I was able to purchase the flower pot and wreaths at Dollar Tree. This project cost me about $15 for two topiaries.
I started by spray painting the flower pot red. You can use short dowel rods to attach the smaller wreaths to the larger wreath or cut one longer one into shorter pieces. Insert the floral foam into the flower pot and insert the long dowel rod.
I cut two ovals out of white cardstock paper and glued them onto the pot. The tissue paper was cut into small 1 in. X 1 in. squares. To apply the tissues to the wreaths, I wrapped them around a pencil eraser, applied a dot of hot glue, and then used the pencil to place them onto the wreaths. I covered the floral foam with shredded foil that I found (also at Dollar Tree).
A little black spray paint and a few random color ribbons at the base of the Mickey head, and it’s all done! I think they turned out beautifully and served as great accessories for the theme.
